Vietnam coffee for cold brew

Beans, ground blends, concentrate and ready-to-drink coffee are different procurement projects. Start with the sellable format, then connect the Vietnamese coffee to extraction, filtration, preservation, packaging and evidence.

Direct answer

Define the product first

Vietnam can supply the coffee. The route determines everything that follows.

A roaster buying green Robusta for local extraction does not need the same supplier, documents or logistics as a distributor buying shelf-stable cans. Even “cold-brew concentrate” is incomplete until strength, dilution, filtration, preservation and storage are defined.

GreenTech’s role is to specify and source the Vietnamese coffee component, help map suitable processing routes, identify evidence gaps and keep lot identity connected across handoffs. Finished beverage capability is confirmed against the named facility and SKU.

Project support: GreenTech coordinates coffee sourcing, supplier qualification, specification review and commercial discussions. Extraction, preservation and filling capabilities are verified with the selected manufacturing partner for each project.

Route comparison

Buy in the condition your operation can control

A lower unit price can conceal extra processing, cold storage or validation work. Compare complete operating routes rather than product names.

A

Green or roasted coffee

Roasters, cafés and beverage manufacturers that control grinding and extraction.

Define in the RFQ

Origin, species, blend, roast, resting period, grind reference, sensory target and shipment format.

Commercial boundary

The coffee supplier does not own extraction yield, filtration, beverage safety or finished shelf life.

B

Ground blend or brew pack

Foodservice operators and private-label brands that want a repeatable brewing input.

Define in the RFQ

Dose, particle distribution, filter or bag construction, brew ratio, water, time, temperature and outer barrier pack.

Commercial boundary

Grind drift and oxygen exposure can change extraction before the operator opens the pack.

C

Bulk liquid concentrate

RTD formulators, café chains and industrial users that will dilute or blend before sale.

Define in the RFQ

Coffee basis, extraction process, TDS or Brix method, dilution target, filtration, preservation, pack and storage.

Commercial boundary

“Concentrate” does not describe strength, microbiological status or whether cold transport is required.

D

Refrigerated RTD

Retail and foodservice programs that can maintain a documented cold chain.

Define in the RFQ

Formula, serving strength, process, fill hygiene, temperature limits, package, supported use-by period and transport monitoring.

Commercial boundary

Refrigeration is a control—not proof that the product is safe for an arbitrary duration.

E

Ambient RTD

Retail brands and distributors buying consumer-ready cans, bottles or cartons for unrefrigerated distribution before opening.

Define in the RFQ

Formula, equilibrium pH and water activity where relevant, validated process, closure controls, destination filings, shelf life and case configuration.

Commercial boundary

Confirm the actual extraction, treatment and filling facility—not only the exporter or brand owner.

Coffee design

Species is a starting point—not a finished cold-brew brief

Approve the coffee black and in its intended use. Milk, ice, dilution, sugar and preservation can change which blend performs best.

01

Robusta-led

A strong coffee signature, milk-based applications and cost-sensitive commercial blends.

What to control

Bitterness, roast development, woody or rubbery taints, extraction strength and the dilution point at which character becomes harsh.

02

Arabica-led

Black RTD products and programs seeking more aromatic, fruit, cocoa or floral differentiation.

What to control

Origin and process identity, acidity balance, aroma retention through preservation and availability of consistent replacement lots.

03

Designed blend

Programs balancing strength, aroma, milk performance, target cost and year-round repeatability.

What to control

Fixed percentages or functional targets, substitution rules, retained reference, roast treatment by component and batch-to-batch sensory release.

Process map

Every handoff changes the evidence owner

01

Coffee input

Origin, species, process, crop reference, blend and roast

02

Extraction

Water, ratio, temperature, time, agitation and equipment

03

Filtration

Filter sequence, clarity, sediment and yield loss

04

Strength

TDS or Brix method, concentrate definition and dilution

05

Preservation

Cold chain, validated heat process, HPP or another supported route

06

Finished pack

Container, closure, coding, storage and shelf-life evidence

Contract specification

Turn “cold brew” into measurable acceptance fields

Contract fieldWhat the buyer should define
Coffee identity Vietnam origin, species, process, grade or sensory lot, blend percentages and substitution rules.
Roast and rest Roast reference or color method, development target, maximum roast-to-pack interval and post-roast resting window.
Particle distribution Grinding equipment, distribution method, acceptable fines and retained production reference.
Water Source or treatment, hardness or mineral target, pH where relevant and microbiological controls.
Extraction Coffee-to-water ratio, time, temperature range, agitation, equipment loading and batch yield.
Filtration Filter stages and ratings, clarification method, turbidity or sediment acceptance and foreign-material controls.
Strength TDS and/or Brix target, instrument, calibration, sample temperature, frequency and dilution instruction.
Sensory release Black and intended-use evaluation, reference sample, panel method, prohibited taints and acceptance authority.
Preservation Named process, operating limits, responsible facility, deviation handling and validation applicable to the SKU.
Microbiology Sampling points, organisms or indicators, methods, release limits and shelf-life monitoring.
Package Primary material, closure, headspace, light and oxygen protection, coding, case pack and pallet pattern.
Commercial basis Pilot quantity, production and print MOQ, lead time, annual forecast, Incoterm and quote validity.
Do not treat °Bx as “coffee solids” without a defined method. Once sugar, milk, plant ingredients, flavors or stabilizers are added, a refractometer responds to the complete formulation. Keep coffee dose, extraction strength, final Brix and sensory acceptance as separate controls.

Preservation decision

The storage claim must follow the actual process

“Cold brewed” describes extraction, not finished-product safety or shelf stability. Contract for one supported preservation and distribution route.

01

Refrigerated

The cold chain is part of the product specification.

Time and temperature controls, sanitation, sealed-pack handling, transport monitoring, date marking and a supported use-by period.

02

Validated treated product

Name the process; do not contract only for “pasteurized.”

Scheduled or validated operating limits, worst-case product basis, responsible process authority, deviation plan and post-process controls.

03

Ambient shelf-stable

A long shelf-life claim must follow the complete formula, process and package.

Commercial-sterility or other applicable validation, container-closure controls, incubation or release plan, storage study and destination review.

Public Vietnam supplier signals

Common buyer questions

Vietnam cold-brew sourcing FAQ

Is Vietnamese Robusta suitable for cold brew?
It can be, particularly where the buyer wants strength, body, milk performance or a defined commercial cost. Suitability depends on lot quality, roast, grind, extraction and dilution. Approve the result against an intended-use sensory reference rather than relying on species alone.
Is cold brew concentrate the same as ready-to-drink coffee?
No. Concentrate is normally diluted or formulated before consumption, while ready-to-drink coffee should already meet its serving-strength, formula, safety, label and package requirements. The quotation must state which condition the strength and shelf-life figures describe.
Does a sealed cold-brew bottle become shelf stable?
No. Sealing prevents later entry through the closure but does not by itself establish microbiological safety or ambient stability. The finished formula, process, package, storage condition and shelf life require product-specific support.
What is the correct TDS or Brix for commercial cold brew?
There is no single universal target. Agree whether the measurement describes extract, concentrate or ready-to-drink product, then specify the instrument, calibration, sample temperature, target range and dilution instruction.
What can GreenTech coordinate for a cold-brew project?
GreenTech can help define and source the Vietnamese coffee component, assess production routes, map responsible facilities, compare evidence and quotations, coordinate samples and connect lot identity to export documents. Finished beverage capability and evidence are confirmed for each named partner and SKU.
